ok, identifying the message behind today’s mystery picture is only worth 10 points (and remember, as of this writing there are still 25 points in play from yesterday’s picture…)
item! today is robert’s rules of order day…
item! with planning beginning for a trip to mars and the recent discovery of an earth-like planet in another solar system, nasa is beginning to have to consider the thorny ethical questions of death on an extended space voyage… fortunately, though, they’re not having to think about sex yet…
item! ever wonder how many of you there are in the us? well now you can find out…
item! if ya think you really wanna know what a politician is saying, mike greenwall is here to help you out…
item! so the french presidential election has come down to… mary poppins v. dracula?
item! it’s not a national id card, it’s just a federally mandated id card that you’ll have to have to board a plane or enter a federal building or courthouse… i think my “real id card” just quacked…
item! we’ve pointed out before that it’s really unfair to compare president w’s veto numbers with those of his predecessors when he’s just as happy to go ahead and sign a bill into law and then put write at the bottom of it “this, of course, doesn’t apply to me, or to anyone else that i don’t want it to, and if those congressional morons thought this law was actually gonna have any effect on the way that i run my administration or make me answer to them in any way that i don’t want to then they’re just stoopid”…
last item! showing a practicality usually missing from presidential candidates while at the same time showing an all-too-familiar trait of politicians to not actually understand what it is their constituents are asking of them, representative tom tancredo when asked what one item he’d like to have with him if he were stranded on a desert island answered… “a boat”…

May 3rd, 2007 at 11:02 pmIt’s an 18th-century design by a French dude (that’s a technical term) for a Digesting Duck. Though never really built, it was “envisioned” nonetheless to look just like a duck, to eat grain kernels like a real duck, and to poop them out the rear like a real duck.
So, it was a mechanical facsimile of the real thing.
Only it’s facing to the right, as if to represent and/or consume the right. A traditionally conservative direction in the US.
So, perhaps this represents the current raft of conservative Presidential candidates as mechanical shitting ducks - look like the real thing, but there’s really nothing there?
Or not…:-)

May 11th, 2007 at 1:51 pm[…] last item! finally, we’ve commented numerous times about president w’s beloved signing statements (as in this junkyard post from a last week) and have wondered why he’s going through the motions of actually vetoing the war appropriations bill instead of just going ahead and signing it and then amending it as is his wont… well, today we have a comment from nancy pelosi on what the democratic response to such a move would be… gee, if only they’d shown a little of that backbone over the past four years… (actually, we’re not that convinced it’s backbone we’re seeing now, just more positioning… still, it’s at least good to see them acknowledge that what he’s been doing is wrong and dangerous… […]
