I looked out this morning and the sun was gone
Turned on some music to start my day
I lost myself in a familiar song
I closed my eyes and I slipped away…
le sigh…
for those in my generation, nothing brings back the sounds of jr. high like boston’s moe than a feeling… it seems like one of the rites of passage of anyone who was lucky enough to own an electric guitar at the time was learning the riff from that song, and for those of us who were vocalists, well, there was no one who could belt it out like boston’s lead singer brad delp…
and even though the band was really the dream child of master musician tom sholtz, and its output was minimal because of sholz’s insistence on perfection (from 1976 to 1986 the band only released three albums), it’s influence on the kids of my generation was incredible… and delp’s importance to the band was proven by the lack of success that was seen by later albums that sholz put out after delp left…
that’s why it’s with sadness today that the moose read of the passing of brad delp, who was found dead in his home yesterday at the age of 55… no other details have yet been released…
now if you’ll excuse us, we’re gonna go crank up some true arena rock…
When I’m tired and thinking cold
I hide in my music, forget the day
And dream of a girl I used to know
I closed my eyes and she slipped away…
so this particular picture crossed our desk this week with the following copy:
