Speaking of Smarmy Managers…
Categories: tv, brady bunch, partridge family, huluHas there ever been another quite as smarmy as Reuben Kincaid? What? “Who’s that?” you say? Why Reuben was the manager of The Partridge Family on the show of the same name. And as portrayed by actor Dave Madden, even to me as a child he seemed pretty much the epitomy of the word “smarmy”. There was just something about him that always seemed the slightest bit “off”…
Of course, the real question is why, considering the fact that the Family, which followed The Brady Bunch in ABC’s Friday night line-up and routinely scored better in the ratings, has never had the syndication and re-run success of the seemingly ubiquitous Bunch. After all, the show boasted the talents of Shirley Jones, Susan Dey, David Cassidy, and the ever infamous Danny Bonaduce. Hmmm… maybe the only thing to do is to take a look at the actual show. Ok, then, thanks to our friends at hulu, here is the season one episode “They Shoot Managers, Don’t They?”. Let’s meet back here afterwards, shall we?
Well, that was certainly as sappy and dated as your average Brady Bunch episode, so again I ask: “Where’s the Partridge love?” Personally I figure it’s probably Reuben’s fault. After all, he IS their manager…
